Glossary of Fastpitch Softball Bat Terms & Phrases
The most important aspect of choosing the RIGHT SOFTBALL BAT is to find one that gives you a QUICK SWING! If a bat is too long, too heavy or the “drop” is too low (e.g., -8, -9), you will lose QUICKNESS and POWER!!!
Power Hitter - swings hard with slight uppercut; tries to reach the fences
Contact Hitter - swings quick and level; hits a lot of line drives, singles and doubles
Slap Hitter - uses quick hands to place the ball in and/or over the infield; needs to swing like a Contact Hitter at times to keep infield honest
Youth & Rec League Hitter - developing hitter; should use lighter bat as they work on bat swing mechanics
